An extremely rare and early commercial directory covering Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Bilston and Willenhall. It contains three main parts - an account of each town, an "alphabetic list of the principal inhabitants ... their respective trades, and places of abode", and a list of the several stage wagons and carriers "that go from Birmingham". A compendium set containing copies of all of the fifty-eight (yes fifty-eight) almanacks currently available which cover Dudley & Netherton - all at a very special price of less than £1 per volume. Blocksidge published a series of Almanacks from 1881 onwards which covered Dudley and the immediately surrounding area, including Netherton. These are six of the earliest that are available. The contents of the almanacks evolved over time. The earliest editions contained advertisements, various historical essays (e.g. on Dudley Castle), calendars for the following year, and a list of the main functions and officials of the Council. Over the years additional sections were added : Clubs, Societies and public institutions (1885 on); "Epitome of Events" - a summary of the previous year's events in Dudley (1886 on); Commercial Directory (1890 on).
