| Search Library This search permits a search of the text of all the books in our library (with the exception of the Electoral Roll and some of the indexes created by Family History Societies). The text has been generated using optical character recognition software from the images of around 350,000 pages from all the books we have scanned. It is therefore a quick way to find a name, a place, or anything else which you are seeking. |
| Optical character recognition does not deliver 100% accurate results, particularly on older printed texts which are not as evenly printed as modern texts. This means that if you cannot find a result to a search, it does not necessarily mean that your keyword does not appear in a book. Conversely, if you do find a result you can be reasonably confident that the keyword is in the book. However, in both cases it is good practice to go back to the orignal source and examine it. This is one reason why we have introduced on-line access to our collection of books - so you can check the results of a search immediately on-line. Because there are so many pages to search, a search can often give too may results to be useful, so we have offered various ways to filter your searches and rank your search results. |
