______________________________________________ 1. More about our project It is some time since our last newsletter. The reason is that we have been working on a number of developments which will be announced in newsletters over the next three months, and which we hope will result in an even better service than we currently offer. Despite this, we have continued to scan books, and are releasing a few today. These include Musgrave's Obituary, was an obituary compiled by Sir william Musgrave up to his death in 1800 from his manuscripts, newspaper cuttings and other sources. It was reprinted by the Harleian Society in 1900. We are delighted to be able to publish three more military histories. The most comprehensive of these is Vale's History of the South Staffordshire Regiment, which we are reproducing with the kind permission of The Staffordshire Regiment, and is essential reading for anyone interested in the South Staffordshire Regiment. Also released today is the History of the 1st Volunteer Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, which covers the history of the volunteer militias and their successors in Birmingham up to 1906. Lastly is a summary of the First World War service records of old boys from the King Edwards Schools in Birmingham, which is of obvious value if your ancestors were Old Edwardians - however, it is not complete, so please do use the "Text Search" to see if your ancestors are listed before buying. There are additions to the works of William Hutton - more editions of the History of Birmingham (see our web-site for details), Courts of Requests which explains how the local courts worked in Birmingham and include details of many petty cases, his History of Derby, written when he was exiled from Birmingham by the Priestley Riots of 1791, and finally the mostly autobiographical Life of William Hutton published after his death. All contain fascinating details of late 18th century life in the Midlands. The Annual Reports of Father Hudson's Society - or more correctly, the Birmingham Diocesan Society - make fascinating reading. Its early development is charted, its sponsors are named, and perhaps of most interest, reporst are provided on many of the homeless children it sent to Canada for a better life. There are also two histories of Coventry - Benjamin Poole's Coventry - its History and Antiquities, and Sharp's Illustrative papers of the history of Coventry. Also included is a history of the development of the Medical school in Birmingham, published on the centenary of its founder, Woilliam Sands Cox. ______________________________________________ 2.
