______________________________________________ 1. More about our project Improvements to Text Search, including new Name search We are releasing today an enhancement to the text search facility. The obvious improvement is to the page layout, which I hope you will agree is now more pleasing to the eye and easier to read. Other improvements have also been made to the search engine to improve performance, and - for the ranked search - to deliver a better result. Finally, a column recording the 'Real' page no. has been added - this reflects the page number as printed in the book, rather than the sequentially numbered image number (of the page in the file which contains copies of the images as presented on CD) which is recorded in the 'page no.' column. Added to the type of searches that can be made is a Name Search. At the moment this looks for abbreviated forms of the first and middle names which you enter, as these abbreviations are frequently used in Directories. This may mean that the existing search mechanism will not find easily a name which you are researching - unless of course you know the abbreviations used and can try them out. We will continue to make improvements to the search faciltiy and welcome any suggestions for improvement that you may have. They have been most helpful so far. ______________________________________________ 2.
